“Change Management for Organizational Sustainability”

The organizing of the 2nd Business, Management, and Governance International Conference 2022 (BMAGiC) on November 23-24 demonstrates UCYP’s commitment to tackling sustainability challenges. Themes that were highlighted in this conference were an initiative taken by UCYP, to share with the  communities the idea of sustainability from several perspectives, and not limited to environmental sustainability only. To compete both nationally and globally, an organization has to undergo a period of change and adaptation. Changes must be implemented to ensure that an organization is always competitive and capable of contributing to economic growth. As a result, this theme was chosen for BMAGiC this year. BMAGiC’22 was indeed a success due to the collaboration of Beijing Information Science and Technology University (BISTU), Politeknik Negeri Malang, Indonesia, and Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL). BMAGiC’22 additionally had the greatest number of attendees of any UCYP conference series, showing strong collaboration and support from strategic partners. With 300 attendees, this two-day conference gathered findings from 29 researchers from diverse nations, including Pakistan, Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

Furthermore, it was an honor when BMAGiC’22 featured two keynote panels, notably Professor Dr. Lester Charles Massingham, Chief Executive Officer of CMC International Pte. Ltd., Singapore, and Professor Dato’ Dr. Muhamad Bin Muda, member of the UCYP board of directors. Professor Dr. Lester Charles Massingham via his sharing, introduced the concept of change management in an organization, encompassing structure, leadership, culture, communication, and stakeholder relationships, among other components that must be taken seriously in the process of change. According to him, communication in the company (top-down & bottom-up approaches) is vital so that information can be conveyed effectively and changes can be carried out more carefully. He also proposed a new structure that comprises adaptation, acceptance, achievement, and assessment, which the organization should practice in its pursuit of sustainability.

Moreover, Professor Dato’ Dr Muhamad Bin Muda stated that the business and corporate sectors have encountered significant hurdles in the last three years as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak. Several economic and corporate sectors were forced to close during that time, but the world also experienced the emergence of the gig economy during that time. Apart from that, some of the challenges faced include changes in customer purchasing power, financial management, and governance. In conclusion, he underlined that every change must be structured, planned, and implemented systematically, as well as  change in leadership is required to guarantee that the intended objectives are achieved. This is due to the fact that the challenges of the change process are too great, and failure to handle them may jeopardize the survival and sustainability of the business. In addition, BMAGic’22 invited four other speakers: Professor Geoffrey Williams, Malaysia University of Science and Technology (MUST); Professor Jielin Yin, Beijing Information Science and Technology University; Dr. Kurnia Ekasari, Polytechnic State of Malang (PoliNeMa); and Professor Dr. Vincent Lee, Curtin University.

As a sign of appreciation, BMAGic’22 has created an award for the Best Presenter, which is divided into three categories: Silver Award, Gold Award, and Platinum Award. UCYP also celebrates the accomplishment of Mrs. Yuzieta Mohd Yusop from Faculty of Management, UCYP who earned the Platinum Award as the Best Presenter via the title “Impact of Capital Structure on Firm’s Performance: Evidence from Malaysian Health Care Sector” and may her success inspire more UCYP citizens to participate. It is hoped that this conference will give a platform and chances for academicians, industry practitioners, students, and participants to create more networks that transcend the world together.
