In the ever-changing world of education, our primary goal is to improve students’ language skills and communication. Nowadays, knowing more than one language isn’t just a skill; it’s a crucial ability that opens up many opportunities in life. Learning multiple languages helps students expand their social and professional networks, understand different cultures, benefit multiple perspectives, improve understanding and appreciate the variety of languages in our communities.
On July 27, 2023, the Tri-Flexi Language Campaign program took place at UCYP’s main campus. It was organized by the Faculty of Education and Language Studies in partnership with the Department of Branding, Communication, and Corporate Diplomacy at University College of Yayasan Pahang (UCYP) and Abdul Rahman Talib Secondary School (SMART), Kuantan. The event was attended by Professor Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Ahmad bin Hj. Zainuddin, the Vice-Chancellor of UCYP, and Puan Norliza binti Ibrahim, Assistant Principal (Administration) of SMART. This program brought together over 250 students and marked a significant step towards improving language education and communication skills in both university and secondary school levels. It also encouraged students from UCYP and SMART to enhance their language abilities.
The Tri-Flexi Language Campaign focused on the theme “Working towards a Carbon-Neutral Future” and featured several main activities. It began with a TikTok competition where students expressed themselves creatively in different languages. The second part was the Tri-Square Talk presentations, where students discussed the theme in various languages. Through the Tri-Flexi Language Campaign too, a Trilingual Corner showcasing students’ multilingual work was set up in the campus.
The diversity of languages students used during these presentations was impressive, including French, Tamil, Mandarin, English, Japanese, Korean, and Malay. This diversity showcased the richness of languages within these institutions. The choice of the theme “Working towards a Carbon-Neutral Future” was intentional, aligning with UCYP’s focus on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) issues. UCYP has previously demonstrated its commitment to environmental awareness through initiatives like Carbon Free-i-Square and the UCYP Go Nature Fun Run 2022. UCYP also established the Pahang Ecology Research Centre (PERC) to address environmental concerns in Pahang.
The Tri-Flexi Language Campaign extended UCYP’s dedication to ESG issues. Students from UCYP and SMART used this opportunity to discuss carbon neutrality in various languages, highlighting the campaign’s synergy with UCYP’s broader ESG initiatives. It showcased UCYP as a pioneering educational institution that promotes language education and environmental awareness.
The enthusiastic response to the Tri-Flexi Language Campaign is just the beginning of promoting language diversity among students. UCYP is committed to continuing and expanding this campaign, inspiring more innovative and effective programs in the future. Let this campaign serve as a stepping stone towards positive initiatives that benefit students and strengthen cultural and linguistic relationships.
