In an effort to strengthen the education sector and meet the growing demand for a skilled workforce, UCYP University has entered into a strategic partnership with Malaysia Rail Link Sdn. Bhd. (MRL). The partnership was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at establishing the Pahang Rail Academy (ARP). The signing ceremony took place on 16 December 2024 at Dewan Sri Bendahara II, Royale Chulan Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The event was graced by Pahang Chief Minister, YAB. Dato’ Sri Diraja (Dr.) Haji Wan Rosdy Bin Wan Ismail who witnessed this significant milestone.

The Pahang Rail Academy (ARP) is a pivotal initiative announced by the Pahang Chief Minister during the Pahang State Budget 2025 presentation. This academy aims to equip individuals with the necessary skills in rail operations and maintenance. It is a key part of the preparations for the launch of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), which is set to begin operations in January 2027. The establishment of ARP addresses the increasing demand for skilled workers in the rail sector, ensuring a steady supply of qualified professionals in line with the country’s growing infrastructure projects.

YAB. Dato’ Sri Diraja (Dr.) Haji Wan Rosdy Bin Wan Ismail, shared his excitement during a press conference following the MoU signing, emphasizing the importance of this collaboration for the state’s future. He noted that the academy aims to train 2,000 students in the fields of rail operations and maintenance, with the first batch of recruits expected to begin their studies in the first quarter of next year. He further explained that approximately 200 young individuals aged between 18 and 42 would be selected for this inaugural intake, providing them with valuable skills that will play a crucial role in the growing rail industry.

The academy will offer a comprehensive training program, blending theoretical knowledge with practical experience. Students will benefit from mentorship support, real-life work experience through access to rail infrastructure, and hands-on training. Furthermore, the curriculum will be tailored to industry needs, developed in close collaboration with contractors, rail project managers, and other key stakeholders. To further enhance awareness among students, promotional activities and career awareness sessions will be organized to highlight the diverse career opportunities available in the rail industry.

In this collaboration, MRL will play a crucial role by providing technical expertise, access to modern infrastructure, and industry input to ensure the training program meets the highest standards. MRL’s involvement will ensure that the academy’s training modules remain relevant and aligned with industry expectations.

This project is expected to not only produce a highly skilled workforce but also enhance UCYP University’s reputation as an adaptive and innovative higher education institution. Additionally, the academy will contribute to strengthening Pahang’s position as an educational hub, supporting local economic and social growth while promoting sustainable development within the rail sector. The collaboration between UCYP University and MRL marks an exciting new chapter in Malaysia’s education and infrastructure landscape, paving the way for a brighter future in the rail industry.

Through the establishment of the Pahang Rail Academy, UCYP University continues to demonstrate its commitment to fostering educational excellence, industry partnerships, and community development, ensuring a lasting impact on both the local and national levels.
