Cultivating the Future: UCYP University Students Explore Sustainable Farming at Agro Resort Semuji
16 December 2025, Tuesday
UCYP University recently organized the “Jelajah Agro Lestari” (Sustainable Agro Exploration) program at Agro Resort Semuji (ARS), LKPP Gambang, Pahang. This high-impact educational visit was designed to provide Bachelor of Plantation Industry Management students and lecturers with direct exposure to modern, sustainable agricultural practices. By bridging the gap between classroom theory and industry reality, the program supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) and empowers the next generation of agricultural leaders.
The program featured a comprehensive itinerary that showcased the integration of technology and nature. Participants engaged in technical tours of laboratory facilities and received briefings on Internet of Things (IoT) applications used for precision monitoring of nutrients and water in durian cultivation. Field activities included visits to stingless bee (kelulut) plots and coconut plantations, as well as an introduction to sorghum cultivation research. These hands-on experiences are crucial for understanding how productivity can be increased without harming the environment, aligning with SDG 2 (Zero Hunger/Sustainable Agriculture) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).
A core focus of the initiative was the Green Campus element. Students learned about efficient waste management, specifically the recycling of organic farm waste into organic fertilizers. The program also highlighted energy efficiency through automated systems that optimize resource use and reduce labor-intensive manual operations. As noted in the program report, “this initiative helps students understand how agricultural productivity can be enhanced while maintaining environmental sustainability.”
Beyond technical skills, “Jelajah Agro Lestari” serves as a platform to inspire career paths in agro-tourism and modern entrepreneurship, supporting SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth). By building strategic networks with industry players like LKPP Corporation Sdn. Bhd., UCYP University continues to strengthen its commitment to developing competitive, knowledgeable human capital capable of driving the nation’s green economy and food security. Looking forward, the university aims to make this an annual event, potentially incorporating carbon auditing and hands-on tree planting to further its sustainability goals.
