From 16th to 18th January 2018, Bachelor of Sharia (Economics and Islamic Banking) students along with some students in Diploma in Islamic Finance had involved in organised an Academic Tour 2018 event for the Kolej Yayasan Pahang program.

In conjunction with the event which took place at Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, the   Academic Tour that aimed to provide an insight for the students about the operational framework in the Islamic capital market, and how it generally works on a daily basis had obtained positive responses from all students who participated.  Majority of   the Academic Tour 2018 participants concurred that this academic tour had better be particularised systematically as to help the students to comprehend their studies in their working field.

On the morning of 16th January 2018, participants had arrived at Sasana Kijang, Bank Negara Malaysia Museum and Art Gallery located on Jalan Dato’ Onn, Kuala Lumpur. The museum  is spread over four levels.  Participants were welcomed by the friendly staff and  gathered on the ground floor before they continued  to explore the gallery, guided by Encik Khalid Nordin. In the museum, there are the Economics Gallery, Islamic Finance Gallery, Nurismatics Gallery, and Children’s Gallery. In the Art Gallery, participants were exhibited with the Central Banks art collection of renowned  Malaysian contemporary artist.

Later that evening, participants were brought to visit AWQAF Holdings Bhd. (AWQAF) which is located in Shah Alam, Selangor. They were welcomed by the Vice President of AWQAF, Encik Mohamad Sahar Mat Din and his staff. A talk on waqf and its function towards the country was held at the PKNS building. This institution is organised to encourage people to support AWQAF in establishing Waqaf Korporat as a long term institution and an innovation that integrates Islamic Waqf institutions directly into the country’s economic development system which is now seen to be driven primarily by private business and corporate organisations. Its long-term goals are to balance the economic system dominated by private-owned corporations, and provide  equal access and benefits from the development of the country’s corporate and corporate sectors towards the society.

The next day, participants paid their visit to Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM) in Putrajaya. A sharing session was conducted by Puan Zaizurina Bt Mansor, Vice President of Muamalat Section of JAKIM in the meeting hall, Dewan Syura 2. In the sharing session, participants were enlightened on the roles and functions of JAKIM. At the end of the session, participants were allowed to conduct a discussion on current issues  regarding jurisprudence in our society. The visit ended with some inspirational words by Puan Zaizurina.

On the final day of the tour, students visited the Wakaf, Zakat and Endowmen (WAZAN), UPM Serdang. The participants were given the opportunity to meet the President of WAZAN, Dr. Razali Bin Osman who delivered some introduction on the  functions, achievements,  future projects, and the importances of participating in WAZAN. Students ended the meeting with some Q&A session.

Throughout the 3 days tour, it can be concluded that  students had managed to gain a lot of knowledge and understanding on economic and Islamic banking system in Malaysia. It helps them to acquire profound understanding on the sector as it might also assist them to have better preparation in facing the real challenge working  in this field.

Generally, all students gave their utmost gratitude to Kolej Yayasan Pahang as the program organiser and sponsor. Hopefully, this program will benefit the students and the college itself in scheming the industrial chain for Kolej Yayasan Pahang’s students in the future. According to the accompanying lecturer, Encik Firdaus Shahidin, the advantage of making collaboration with the industry is that it can help students in brushing up their communication and problem solving skills particularly in the real working situation. Two of the students, Farouq Muaz and Fatin Afiqah had also expressed their gratefulness for the opportunity to be involved in this program since it strengthen the relationship between Diploma program students and Degree program students. The Academy of Islamic Study and Arabic Language itself would like to thank the Office of the Vice President of Industry Relations & Research Development department led by Dr. Hafizan binti Mat Som for her approval to conduct the program.
