EMPOWERING ACADEMIC SUCCESS THROUGH ALUMNI MENTORSHIP: UCYP UNIVERSITY ADVANCING QUALITY EDUCATION

16 July 2025, Wednesday

UCYP University continues to reinforce its commitment to sustainable, inclusive, and high-quality education through the successful implementation of the Academic Success Programme: Alumni Sharing Session – “Tracing Their Path, Shaping Our Steps”. Organised by the Counselling Centre in collaboration with the Alumni Unit, the programme reflects the University’s proactive efforts to support student success while advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education.

The programme was strategically designed to support diploma students with a Grade Point Average (GPA) below 2.99, focusing on both academic improvement and student well-being. By integrating academic skills development, effective time management, and psychosocial support, the initiative adopts a holistic and student-centred approach aimed at enhancing learning outcomes and preventing academic attrition. This approach underscores UCYP University’s commitment to ensuring equitable learning opportunities and promoting positive educational experiences for all students.

A key highlight of the programme was the active involvement of alumni as facilitators and mentors, which strengthened the element of lifelong learning and experiential education. Through the sharing of authentic academic journeys, real-life challenges, and career experiences, alumni provided students with realistic insights into academic pathways and workplace expectations. These sessions empowered students to rebuild confidence, strengthen resilience, and set clearer academic and career goals, reinforcing the objectives of SDG 4.

Beyond academic development, the programme also contributed to SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth by exposing students to early career awareness and employability insights shared by alumni. At the same time, the strong collaboration between UCYP University and its alumni network exemplifies SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, highlighting the importance of strategic partnerships in delivering sustainable academic support and student development initiatives.

Although the programme did not directly incorporate specific Green Campus initiatives, it was implemented responsibly through the use of existing campus facilities and digital materials for programme coordination and information dissemination. This reflects efficient resource utilisation and responsible operational practices in line with the University’s broader sustainability principles.

Overall, the Academic Success Programme recorded positive qualitative and quantitative outcomes. Students demonstrated increased motivation, improved self-confidence, and greater awareness of effective learning strategies and goal-setting practices. High participation rates and active engagement throughout the session indicated strong programme acceptance, while post-programme feedback revealed higher levels of student satisfaction and a stronger commitment to improving academic performance in subsequent semesters.

Through initiatives such as this, UCYP University continues to empower its students, strengthen alumni engagement, and advance sustainable, inclusive, and transformative education, in alignment with national aspirations and global sustainability goals.
