On July 26, 2023, the Digital Awareness and Technology Updates program, took place at SMK Padang Tengku, Kuala Lipis, Pahang, with resounding success. The initiative was conducted by the University College of Yayasan Pahang (UCYP) and was a significant component of the Technology Cluster under the Women of Pahang’s Blueprint and Action Plan, helmed by the esteemed Yang Berhormat Dato’ Hajah Sabariah Saidan. The primary goal of the program was to raise awareness and provide exposure to the realm of digital technology, with a specific focus on the rapidly growing fields of Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Social Media. This thoughtfully crafted program targeted teenagers, aiming to enhance their understanding of the rapidly evolving world of digital technology. Through interactive sessions and discussions, approximately 100 students and teachers from SMK Padang Tengku eagerly delved into the world of digital technology, gaining insights into both its challenges and the array of career opportunities it presents. In her opening speech, Prof. Madya Ts. Dr. Hafizan binti Mat Som, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Advancement & Quality) of UCYP and also as the Head of the Technology Cluster for the Women of Pahang Blueprint and Action Plan, expressed profound gratitude for the collaboration between UCYP and SMK Padang Tengku in conducting this enlightening program. The aim was to empower participants with invaluable knowledge and firsthand experiences to navigate the ever-evolving and challenging technological domain.

The presence of Yang Berhormat Dato’ Mustafa bin Long, the Member of the Pahang State Legislative Assembly (ADUN) for Padang Tengku, added significance to the occasion. He graced the event, officially inaugurating the Digital Awareness and Technology Updates program, signifying its debut launch within the Kuala Lipis district. In his speech, Yang Berhormat Dato’ Mustafa bin Long emphasized the continuing progress of technology, which has surpassed manual processes and embraced the era of Industry 4.0, significantly transforming various sectors, particularly education. He emphasized the importance of extending technology exposure to the youth and students, emphasizing the crucial role played by teachers, parents, and educational institutions in providing suitable support and guidance for the integration of technology into the learning process effectively. Furthermore, Yang Berhormat Dato’ Mustafa bin Long shared notable initiatives undertaken by the Pahang State Government, particularly in the Kuala Lipis district, including the provision of 63 towers in identified areas to improve digital network accessibility.

The Digital Awareness and Technology Updates program had diverse objectives. Firstly, it aimed to raise awareness and understanding about the latest technological advancements through interactive sessions, covering a wide range of relevant topics. Secondly, it focused on equipping young participants with the essential upskilling and reskilling competencies to meet current and future demands. By doing so, the program sought to ignite interest in the field of technology and encourage active engagement, contributing to the establishment of a digitally adept community that is well-equipped to compete and thrive in the global digital landscape. Through lifelong learning initiatives, the program aimed to empower participants with digital prowess, a valuable asset in today’s rapidly evolving world.

The modules and sessions during the Digital Awareness and Technology Updates program were thoughtfully designed and effectively delivered by UCYP’s experts, including Ts. Suriyani Sulaiman, the Chief Digital Officer of UCYP, and Mr. Mahendran a/l Shilowaras, Assistant Manager (Computer Programmer) of UCYP. The engaging topics included Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Social Media, and other pertinent subjects.

The program received an overwhelming response and appreciation, signifying its importance and relevance. By cultivating a digitally progressive community, UCYP envisions playing a vital role in contributing to the nation’s advancement and prosperity. The university firmly believes that through collaborative efforts and strategic partnerships, such programs will continue to shape young minds, inspiring a generation of talented individuals to venture into the exciting and ever-evolving world of digital technology.
