Flood disaster that happened this time has greatly affected all Malaysians. Kuantan became one of the most affected areas in Pahang. Thus, UCYP and KYP through Kelab Warga Kerja IKIP (KWKI) led by Encik Mohamad Hafiz Bin Ariff as the president of KWKI as well as Student Affairs Department UCYP came with plans and preparation to assist the flood victims. The necessities were successfully distributed to the victims by Encik Jalaluddin bin Abdullah as UCYP Registrar. 63 UCYP and KYP staff were identified to be affected by the flood. Their homes were badly covered in water which resulted in electric power outage as well as the shortage of food and water supply. The areas affected by this natural disaster include Inderapura, Bukit Rangin, Sri Damai, Cenderawasih, Batu 11 as well as the surrounding areas.
All staff and students worked together in giving their best to contribute various kinds of assistance to the victims. Kelab Warga Kerja IKIP (KWKI) started the initiative to help the victim by providing necessities for the victims such as food and toiletries. On top of that, Student Affairs Department UCYP managed to set up a volunteerism squad named Super Soakers Squad which consists of 100 students. The volunteers were divided into 10 groups equipped with all the cleaning tools that aimed to help the residents with their clean-up efforts before moving back in. A fundraising was also held to provide financial aid to students and staff that are affected by the flood which is also an opportunity for UCYP and KYP citizens as well as the community around to take part in the fundraising. Apart from that, Yayasan Tuanku Canselor UCYP took this opportunity to donate the necessities to UCYP and KYP students that are affected by the flood. Restoran Sri Kampung and Beautiful Blossom also grabbed this chance to contribute some food and baby necessities. Yayasan Pahang also did not miss in providing full support for the mission by allocating certain amount of fund to help the flood victims.
The unity portrayed due to everyone’s concern and support not only ease the burden of the victims but also strengthen the relationship between UCYP/KYP community with the students as well as the community. The victims also expressed their gratitude for the assistance and moral support especially from UCYP and KYP volunteers. It is hoped that everyone that is affected by the flood is able face the challenges with perseverance. Many thanks to all the volunteers, donors as well as people who are directly and indirectly involved in the Flood Relief Mision UCYP/KYP 2021.
