Navigating Towards Excellence: Insights from the Vice-Chancellor of UCYP University 2024 Remarks

18 January 2024 was marked as a momentous occasion in which a gathering was held for the first time between the new Vice Chancellor of UCYP University, YH Prof. Dato’ Dr. Muhammad Fauzi bin Mohd Zain and staff. This gathering, attended by the management and staff of UCYP University and KYP Education Sdn. Bhd. (KESB), aimed to address the mission and vision of the institution alongside to establish the understanding and collaboration within the UCYP and KESB community.

Prof. Fauzi began by highlighting the current scenario in the ecosystem of national higher learning institutions. He outlined the strategic direction and swift measures taken by UCYP University, emphasizing the introduction of the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) concept. This approach centers on the core values of Relevance, Excellence, and Proficiency, with a special focus on fostering Creativity, Quality, and Integrity.

The Vice-Chancellor outlined key areas for continuous improvement:

1. Values Enhancement: Prioritizing Relevance, Excellence, and Proficiency as the three main characteristics, superseding Creativity, Quality, and Integrity in the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) framework.
2. Research Excellence: Focusing on high-quality research grounded in technopreneurship, essential for societal impact.
3. Student-Centric Education: Advocating technopreneur-based education to create outstanding career opportunities for students.
4. Staff Appreciation and Development: Building and managing leadership skills within a broader staff group.
5. Financial Sustainability: Encouraging the development of additional profitable income sources for investment, benefiting the entire UCYP community.
6. International Performance and Engagement: Establishing strategic international collaborations driven by new research and innovations.

Moving forward, Prof. Fauzi emphasized the importance of strengthening human resources, highlighting three key qualities for individuals to contribute effectively as ideal team members: Honor, Energy, and Wisdom.

The Vice-Chancellor also addressed the need for academic marketing, ensuring UCYP’s competitiveness at both national and international levels. He underscored the significance of enhancing career placements for students, focusing on their welfare and excellence.

Moreover, the importance of financial stability for the well-being of the university’s staff was highlighted. Prof. Fauzi stressed the need for continuous improvement in programs and services to maintain UCYP’s excellence. As UCYP University embraces these strategies and values, it stands poised for continuous growth, furthering its commitment to excellence in education and contributing significantly to the higher education landscape in the nation.

The atmosphere was elevated as the former Deans and Heads of Programs were honored during the event and also introduced a new lineup for the upcoming faculty and a roster of newly appointed Deans. This marked the beginning of a new chapter in UCYP’s leadership, demonstrating the university’s commitment to smooth transitions and maintaining continuity.

Adding to the vibrancy of the occasion, the meeting featured the presentation of the Anugerah Rakan Aspirasi, recognizing outstanding staff members across various categories. The winners, determined through a democratic voting process conducted by the Human Resources Department, added an element of celebration and recognition to the event.

As UCYP University embarks on this transformative journey under the leadership of Prof. Fauzi, the first staff meeting, serves as a landmark event, symbolizing a commitment to excellence, growth, and collaborative success within the UCYP and KESB community.
