The International Conference on Art, Culture & Heritage (ICACH) was the last international conference in 2021 hosted by UCYP after five (5) successful international conferences of different fields namely english language, education, science and technology, business and management as well as islam and higher education. As for the final conference in the year of 2021, Faculty of Creative Arts was given the responsibility to collaborate with University of Brunei Darussalam (UBD) to discover more findings on art, culture and heritage.
This international conference was held virtually on 15 and 16 December 2021, and managed to gather 170 participants worldwide. Thirty (30) speakers from Singapore, Canada, Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia participated in the 2-day sharing session. UCYP’s students from the Faculty of Creative Arts are also given the opportunity to carve out their self potential by participating and presenting their papers. The involvement from the undergraduate students reflect that UCYP is persistence in shaping the students’ minds to be more critical, analytical and predictive.
Apart from that, the conference is also fortunate to have the Vice Chancellor of UCYP, Professor Emeritus Dato’ Dr Ahmad Bin Hj Zainuddin as ICACH keynote speaker and his presentation was on The Arts and Sustainable Development. He believed that, creative industry is one of the fastest growing sectors in terms of income generation, job opportunities and export earnings. However, this sector not only contributes to national income but also supports social development.
Many international speakers have participated in this conference namely Professor Emeritus Chesley John Skinner, University of Lethbridge (Canada), Professor Dr. Tjetjep Rohendi Rohidi, State University of Semarang Indonesia, Professor Ts. Dr. Ruslan Abd. Rahim, Rector of the Academy of Arts, Culture and National Heritage (ASWARA) and Professor Emeritus Dr. Graeme Britton from Raffles University Singapore -all of which are experts and professionals in the field of arts, culture and heritage.
The 2-day conference ended with an award giving ceremony for the best presentation that comprised Gold, Silver and Bronze category. For the Gold category, it was won by Associate Professor James McLellan from the University of Brunei Darussalam. As for the Silver category, a presenter from Universitas Bunda Mulia Indonesia, Yana Erlyana won the place. For the Bronze category, two winners were selected namely Rui Oliveira Lopes, Assistant Professor University of Brunei Darussalam and a bachelor student from the Faculty of Creative Arts, UCYP. Muhammad Ali Imran Abdul Rashid Gordon won the Bronze Award with his presentation, ‘The Impact of Covid-19 Pandemic towards the Arts Creativity & Ideas among Local Artists in Pahang’.
ICACH 2021 is hoped to mark another milestone in the field of art, culture and heritage in the region.
