8 June 2021 – A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between UCYP and Malaysia Robotics & Automation Society (MyRAS) was held via online platform on 8 June 2021.
The Chairman of UCYP Board of Governors, YBhg, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Prof. Dr. Noorul Ainur Binti Mohd Nur, was invited as the guest of honor, also present were the UCYP Vice Chancellor, Professor Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Haji Zainuddin, President of MyRAS Dr. Ishkandar Baharin, Secretary General of MyRAS, Mr. Ragunathan Kuppusamy, Vice President of the Academia Ts. Dr. Mohd Azizi Abdul Rahman, Executive Committee Member of MyRAS, Mr. Max Ong Chong Hup and Dr. Syafiq Fauzi Kamarulzaman, UCYP’s top management and deans.
In the MoU signing ceremony, representing UCYP was the Vice Chancellor, Professor Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Ahmad bin Haji Zainuddin while the representative of MyRAS was its President, Dr. Ishkandar Baharin. Meanwhile, the UCYP Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Advancement & Quality) Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Hafizan Mat Som and Secretary General of MyRAS, Mr. Ragunathan Kuppusamy, were the witnesses for the institutions.
According to Professor Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Haji Zainuddin, the collaboration between UCYP and MyRAS will position UCYP as a satellite office that will work to expand the field of robotics and automation through the supply of short-term courses and professional certificates. This opportunity enables to provide benefits for the well-being of the community through educational programs.
“The main objective of this collaboration is to promote collaboration between MyRAS and UCYP by establishing a MyRAS-UCYP satellite office in the East Coast region; it also provides opportunities for UCYP to meet the needs of training and consultation in Malaysian industries as well as other ASEAN countries including Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand”.
“This co-operation is part of the UCYP’s development process for a full university status by 2023 as well as supporting the AI industry led by MyRAS for the sake of the growth of the technology.
In the meantime, the President of MyRAS, Dr. Ishkandar Baharin said that the collaboration made through this MoU would put UCYP as a global brand in robotics and AI or Artificial Intelligence
“In fact, UCYP is also able to play a joint role with MyRAS in providing quality program as efforts to produce capable technical skilled people in this fast-paced technological advanced world”, explained Dr. Ishkandar baharin.
The objectives of the MoU are
- To co-operate and establish MyRAS-UCYP Satellite Office.
- To identify collaborative opportunities between MyRAS and UCYP, their respective business partners and companies, in particular but not limited to business, technology and human capital development.
- To share knowledge and experiences through capacity building activities.
- To transfer knowledge and expertise for the development of technology transfer and commercialization.
- To share ideas and information towards the development of the companies participating in the programs established by Satellite Office.
According to the Dean, Faculty of Science, Engineering and Agrotechnology, Puan Ainul Hayati Yunus, further discussions will be made regarding the agreed objectives with MyRAS and the MyRAS-UCYP satellite centre is expected to commence its operations as early as July 2021.
