In the spirit of Ramadan, UCYP University hosted a meaningful Iftar event and zakat contribution ceremony for the students of the Indigenous Community Development Program (PETAMA). The event took place on March 20, 2025 at Aqua Crystal Hall, Main Campus.
A total of 65 PETAMA students were celebrated during the event, receiving zakat contributions worth RM29,250. The aid consisted of cash and festive clothing in preparation for Eid al-Fitr. This generous contribution was made possible through the support of the Pahang Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MUIP).
This annual initiative by MUIP has become a cherished tradition, offering consistent support and joy to PETAMA students each Ramadan. The contribution was officially presented by Prof. Dr. Hassan bin Ahmad, a member of board of directors, MUIP. Also in attendance were Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmad Fared bin Mohd Din, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Development & Community Diplomacy), and Razi bin Musa, Manager of PETAMA.
This event not only provided physical support to the students but also reflected UCYP University’s commitment to inclusivity and community care. PETAMA, as a centre under KYP Education Sdn Bhd (KESB), aims to support and empower the indigenous community through education and personal development.
The zakat contribution, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, serves as a reminder of the value of generosity, unity, and compassion. For many PETAMA students, this event was a memorable one as they received not just material aid, but also encouragement and recognition from both university leaders and community figures.
Speaking during the event, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahmad Fared shared a message of gratitude towards MUIP for their ongoing support and highlighted the importance of collaboration between educational institutions and religious bodies in helping students among the Orang asli communities.
As the evening continued, students and guests joined in a warm and meaningful Iftar, strengthening bonds through shared meals, faith, and a sense of community. The hall was filled with smiles and heartfelt conversations, showing how small acts of kindness can leave a lasting impact on students’ lives.
