The tourism industry is a significant contributor to the economic growth of the country. Pahang, being a state that preserves its natural heritage, is a preferred destination for both local and international tourists, which in turn helps to accelerate its economic growth rate. The Pahang State Government appreciates the efforts of various agencies and educational institutions, such as the University College of Yayasan Pahang (UCYP), in assisting and formulating strategies to further advance this sector.

As a higher education institution that is always entrusted by the Pahang State Government, UCYP has been actively involved in providing a platform to find the best solutions to restore economic activity in the tourism sector, which was severely affected by the pandemic. UCYP has implemented various initiatives such as symposiums, webinars, and discussions with industry players, education professionals, and stakeholders at the global level. Additionally, UCYP has worked hand in hand with Pahang Tourism launching the new theme, “This is Pahang”, and organizing the Pahang International Tourism Symposium (PITS) to support the state’s tourism industry.

UCYP’s efforts have yielded results as it has received recognition at the International Conference on Cultural Tourism and Education 2023 Malaysia-China (Heilongjiang) Cultural Economy Cooperation Summit (ICCTE 2023). The event, which was held on March 30, 2023, at RekaScape Cyberjaya, is a joint effort of the Malaysia-China Cultural Tourism Association and ECI Higher Education. This event aims to acknowledge the Pahang State Government and UCYP for their efforts and initiatives in empowering the country’s tourism industry.

This success is a pride to the UCYP community, as UCYP is the only higher education institution in Pahang that received the Excellence Tourism Education Contributor Award presented by The Chairman of Pahang Unity, Tourism and Culture Committee, YB. Leong Yu Man. This indirectly proves the ability of UCYP to support the aspirations of the Pahang State Government, whether at the national or international level.
