UCYP has been entrusted with the YSP 2023 program by the Pahang State Government through its Tun Ghazali Shafie Institute for Strategic Leadership (TGS-ISL). This seven-day leadership course, scheduled from September to November 2023, is designed to introduce participants to five modules. The program also features presentation sessions by seven groups, each representing a parliamentary or state assembly constituency in Pahang Darul Makmur. Notably, 27 protege ADUN Belia are actively participating in the program. At its essence, this leadership course is fundamentally focused on immersing participants in the hands-on application of authentic leadership concepts, especially in their engagements with local communities.

The program’s first day began with an ice-breaking session led by Puan Siti Syafiqah Shuhaimi, a qualified counselor at UCYP. This activity, aimed at building connections among participants, set the stage for collaborative learning.

Under the theme of ‘Leading with Demeanor: Integrity and Thoughtfulness,’ Module 1 delved into the exploration of values, ethics, and integrity. Participants acquired practical tools to navigate ethical decisions and confront dilemmas in leadership. The insightful guidance was provided by En. Mohd Rais Ramli, Head of the Program Excellence & Community Section at the Malaysian Integrity Institute (IIM), and En. Fazly bin Noordin, Deputy Director & Community Development Officer at the Malaysian Integrity Institute (IIM).

On the third day, participants delved into Module 2, titled “Leading Social Technology: The Smart Mob Era.” This module aimed to refine participants’ skills in producing quality and ethical social media content while discussing the latest technological advancements. Puan Ts. Suriyani Sulaiman, Chief Digital Officer at UCYP, and Encik Mahendran A/L Shilowaras, Assistant Manager/Programmer, expertly delivered this module. This module’s insights into technology and social media within the context of leadership promise to empower participants to effectively integrate technology, particularly social media, into their leadership roles.

According to the Director of Tun Ghazali Shafie Institute for Strategic Leadership, Puan Suhaila Hj. Mukhtar, “The YSP 2023 represents more than just an event; it marks a crucial stride toward creating a brighter future for Pahang and beyond. It fosters qualities such as leadership, integrity, thoughtfulness, and technological innovation in its participants, guiding them to become pillars of their communities and society”.

As we progress on this remarkable journey, we anticipate the growth of these emerging leaders who will undoubtedly be the catalysts for change in the future. We express our gratitude to all our esteemed guests and contributors for their support in ensuring the success of YSP 2023. In summary, the Young Statesmen Programme (Session 1) is a commitment to cultivating a new generation of leaders who will lead with integrity, thoughtfulness, and technological expertise, ultimately shaping a better future for everyone.
